We will be heading out to South Dakota for Sturgis this year. I am wondering if anyone has ever been out there and what your experience was. I am taking the first two weeks of August off. July will be our planning month. It has not been completely determined as to if we will be trailering the bikes or riding the bikes to SD. Part of me wants to ride them out after seeing mostly harleys being trailered on the Niagara ride. But then, saturday, with having bike issues, makes me think trailering would be much better.

Ok in a perfect world you'd have your daughter following you in a support vehicle with trailer - for the just in case scenario. Hopefully she won't drop the truck on its side. :ani_wink:

If we're voting, I say ride the bikes. It may be a once in a life time trip and good or bad it's going to create a lot of memories that caging it up just wouldn't provide. I do have to ask though, how many days are you planning for the run out and back? I figure that's easily one of the weeks.

I'm looking at doing a similar ride up to Minot, ND with a side trip to the Black Hills and I worry about break downs too. If you don't already have it you may want to look into the AAA Plus card. The "plus" covers motor-homes and motorcycles. At least with that you could get a tow and some general assistance.

In addition to the AAA Plus is the AMA (American Motorcycle Association). The towing benefit is worth the cost, as it applied to any vehicle you riding in, plus there are discounts at some of the motorcycle sites (bike bandit being one) AAA is good, but each vehicle has to get coverage, where the AMA covers a whole household (yes, including cars).

Now I must admit when I read this I did burst out in a laugh, But that was just Rong!!! I think riding out with a chase vehicle is a good idea that way you don't have to pack so much on the bikes. Or another idea I always had was if needed on a long trip you could always rent a uhaul!!! :thumbleft: greazman(Rich) 8)

This time next week I hope to be in the West Virginia area. Yes, my trip is still on. I will be leaving next Friday, July 30 for a 2 week adventure out west. We all know that we do not live in a perfect world. I will be going out by myself, just me and the bike. :happycruizin:

Thanks, Cheryl. How is recovery going? Are you staying off the leg? I am not taking my laptop. I will attempt to post pictures as I go along. :happycruizin:

Hey there, I made it to Elizabethtown, Kentucky yesterday. I left home at 2:45 am and got in to my Aunt's house about 5:00 pm. I took the scenic route to Frankfurt instead on heading south at Lexington. All is good, no extra aches or pains this morning. Tomorrow I will be heading to the St. Louis arch and then onto Columbia, MO for the night.
