OK, I think i've waited long enough to check in on this subject. I've read all the post so far and drawing on past experience...here it goes. Some of this has been posted by others, but I'll try to get it all together so it will be easy to remember and plan for.

1. A one day ride to the falls IS going to be alot for those who are not use to riding long distance. If you go on a long trip, riding till tired...let's face it.."it sucks". Just plan on riding till you start to get tired. This is alot safer and makes for a great trip. When I went to California, I had days where I did almost 700 miles and then days where I only did about 300. All depends on weather, traffic and road conditions. None of these can be predicted.

2. There are always places to stop for the night. Like Rich said, we can just wing that. If you want the Hilton, maybe bike trips are not for you. This holds true mostly if you are on back roads away from the interstate where all the larger chain hotels are located.

The dates are great for me. The only thing I have to do this spring is put on a new tire. I did get over 16,000 on my Metzler rear tire.

On the road you will find a need to stop more often then you think. When I went to Myrtle Beach with the VA group, we rode 120 miles then a gas stop. We did this at about 75-85 mph. It still took us almost 10 hrs to get there. It's more fun to go about 80 miles, take a drink and potty break then ride another 70-80 miles and get gas. Sniper and I did this all the way back from the Keys.

We should be looking for a place to stop about 350 miles up the road. That puts us within striking distance to the falls. Spend the day there and decide how we want to get home. Some of us can just punch"avoid highways" into the GPS, then try to get lost.

These are just a few thoughts. Feel free to comment.

Just to let you know. I am planning a solo ride to Boston in late April...just to see a band. :ani_alien:

Any way you look at it, Harrisburg is the prime juncture for everyone going on this ride. I guess the question will be where abouts should we meet. It's been a while since I've been up on the north side but I would think meeting somewhere.

How about at http://www.sinistercustomcycles.com/about/ along Rt322? Just something a little different.

We do need to have another planning meet, sometimes in the near future. Maybe a night or Sunday afternoon in April.

So, any Sunday except the 18 of April would be fine with me and any Saturday in April is good. I take it that we would like to meet at a different place. Ellicott City area was a nice half way point to meet up with everyone.

I was thinking Ellicott City area is good medium point, like Rong. I don't live in that area so I don't know what is good and what is not.

What about Fells Point? Would anyone be interested in having that as a destination and aim for late afternoon on a Saturday? Maybe we could all meet up there with the bikes?

Not that I am going to be there since I won't be going on the Niagara Falls ride......but if you guys are looking for something different, then may I suggest the Annapolis Harbor? There are several seafood restaurants close to each other so I'm sure you will find a nice crab cake dinner at one of the places. :tinycrab: It would be a lot safer than driving into Baltimore City. Just a thought.

:idea1: Just a thought:

Meeting at a library in the Annapolis area and using one of their conference rooms and then heading somewhere for lunch afterwards. I don't think that meeting at any resturant will be quiet to plan out some information needed for the trip. I believe that having lunch afterwards would enable us to miss the lunch crowds. I looked at Cantler's Riverside Inn, http://www.cantlers.com/

Great idea. Just pick a date and find a library in the area. The last time I went to Cantler's the food was really good. In fact the last time we were there we went by water and left at over 80 mph in an off shore race boat. Jimmy Cantler told us not to do that anymore...we rocked the sailboats too much...lol.

I have reserved a meeting room for the MDXiles group at the Broadneck Branch of the Anne Arundel Public Library, 1275 Green Holly Drive, Annapolis, MD 21409 for Saturday, April 24th at 3:00 pm. We will talk/plan for Niagara Falls and then head to Cantler's Riverside Inn, 458 Forest Beach Rd, Annapolis, MD 21409. It would be about a 5 mile trip from the library to the inn. We would be ready for food by the time we are done the meeting. I did not have a whole lot of flexibility with the date so mark your calendars now. I apologize and hope to see lots of people there.

:happycruizin:Even if you don't plan on attending the meeting for Niagara Falls, maybe plan to meet the group at the Inn.

Unfortunately I'm up in Gettysburg that weekend. So please make sure and clue me in on the decisions. And have FUN. Sounds like a great idea though.
